Prevention Specialist - Community Health Engagement program

Full-time position focused on delivering prevention and outreach strategies to populations at risk for HIV, STIs, and viral hepatitis. The role includes opioid overdose prevention, outreach, counseling, Narcan distribution, infectious disease testing, and post-overdose follow-ups through both group and individual interventions.

Responsibilities

• Work with the prevention team to identify priority populations in Quincy, Weymouth, Braintree, Hull, and surrounding communities for targeted outreach.
• Assist in developing and implementing prevention and education strategies for identified populations, both individually and in group settings.
• Screen, interview, and counsel individuals at risk of HIV, STIs, or Hepatitis C infection.
• Collect specimens (blood, urine, swabs) for HIV, STI, and Hepatitis C testing and send them to appropriate testing sites.
• Provide and distribute harm reduction materials such as condoms, syringes, bleach, pipes, fentanyl test strips, and printed educational resources.
• Develop and provide referrals for clients needing additional services.
• Perform individual-level interventions and facilitate educational groups in substance use treatment centers and community settings.
• Serve as a content and resource specialist on HIV, STIs, and Hepatitis C for the company’s providers and staff.
• Attend meetings, conferences, and trainings to stay current on developments in STIs, HIV, Hepatitis C, substance use, and related topics.
• Maintain a flexible schedule, including evening hours, to support targeted outreach efforts.
• Complete all required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, clients, and program-related individuals.
• Adhere to safety standards, including universal/standard precautions, and obtain necessary training for risk-related areas.
• Use dependable transportation to travel to client sites and external trainings.
• Perform duties in accordance with the company’s Community Health Center policies and procedures.
• Handle additional related duties as assigned by a supervisor.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred with a minimum of two years of professional or lived experience in health education, substance use services, or HIV services.
• Knowledge of HIV, STI, and Hepatitis transmission.
• Comfort working with diverse populations, including people recently released from prison, people who use drugs, LGBTQIA+ individuals, people experiencing houselessness, and people who do sex work.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred; willingness to learn required.
• Self-directed, flexible, with excellent teaching and interpersonal skills.
• Strong judgment skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Attention to detail and strong record-keeping skills.
• Reliable transportation.

Pay

$22.98 – $24.40 per hour.
