The Press Operator will ensure a quality product using statistical process control methods and troubleshooting techniques. This position provides leadership on a printing press to achieve maximum machine and raw material efficiencies while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment. The Press Operator is responsible for directing and leading a printing press and its assigned crew.

Responsibilities

  • Complete safety orientation and forklift certification training.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of product, customer specifications, and visual inspection requirements.
  • Collect and document specific data, including basic math skills (metric and standard).
  • Use color measuring instruments (Techkon) to monitor color, measure and monitor ink viscosities, and apply color theory in multi-color printing.
  • Apply measurement and data to identify root causes and solve problems using statistical tools.
  • Communicate professionally and interact effectively with all team members.
  • Maintain respect and confidentiality of company and customer information.
  • Utilize teamwork for job requirements and process improvements.
  • Demonstrate general computer skills (e.g., JDE, Quality Windows).
  • Train new team members effectively.
  • Understand components and functions of flexographic printing presses, including Unwind, Infeed, Drying, Outfeed, Rewind, Register, Impression setting, Port-a-lift, and Inking systems.
  • Adhere to changeover procedures for flexographic printing.
  • Read and interpret Job Travelers and identify raw materials by part numbers.
  • Recognize, identify, and communicate problems in specific terms (troubleshooting).
  • Transfer information effectively between shifts.
  • Understand and interpret MSDS and SOC sheets, including proper completion of SOC sheets.
  • Demonstrate good 5S, housekeeping, and organizational skills.
  • Ensure proper solvent, ink, and hazardous waste handling procedures are followed by all team members.
  • Adjust breaks and lunch times based on production needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three to five years of manufacturing experience required.
  • Three to five years of flexographic printing press experience strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of and skills in using office machines (computers and printers) and business procedures.
  • Strong mechanical and mathematical aptitude.

Schedule

3rd shift: 8:45 PM – 5:00 AM, Monday through Friday.

Working Conditions

  • Moderate noise level with frequent excursions into high noise areas.
  • Work is performed in a plant environment with frequent contact with others in production, warehouse, and office areas.
  • Requires prolonged standing, frequent bending, stooping, stretching, and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to distinguish letters and colors.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
