About the Role

The Printing Press Operator reports to the Production Supervisor of the Printing Department and is responsible for preparing presses for flexographic printing, including setup. This position requires skill progression and testing, and involves all aspects of quality and productivity associated with materials processed through assigned machinery.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate flexographic printing presses, including orientation of plates and ink distribution.
• Prepare presses for quality printing and manage the entire press run, including production, troubleshooting, and quality checks.
• Notify management of equipment malfunctions, damage, or repair needs.
• Maintain production and quality standards as set by the Department Manager.
• Organize workflow for smooth operation and make necessary adjustments to ensure product compliance with work orders.
• Adhere to safety policies and procedures, inspect the facility for hazards, and maintain a clean work environment.
• Perform routine equipment management and visual inspections.

Requirements

• Mechanically inclined with the ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
• High school graduation or equivalent preferred.
• Prior Central Impression Press operation or knowledge of late model, automatic presses preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Strong operational communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Self-motivated with the ability to perform duties with minimal direction.
• Ability to read and understand a measuring tape and perform basic mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to talk, listen, stand, and use hands to handle, grasp, or feel objects.
• Continuous use of arms, hands, and fingers with exposure to arm, wrist, and back fatigue.
• Frequent bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, sitting, carrying, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
• Occasional walking, climbing/descending stairs, and pushing a broom to clean the production floor.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Requires close vision, color vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

• Moderate to very loud noise levels.
• Exposure to temperature variances, including extreme heat in summer and cold in winter.
