Press Brake Operator

About the Role

Responsible for operating a press brake machine, fitting and fabricating structural steel, completing layout, and inspecting finished products.

Responsibilities

• Operate press brake machine and run bend and forming operations using standard and custom punches.
• Use a CNC controller to input information into the machine.
• Adjust ram and back gauge locations per process control instructions and blueprints.
• Check height, depth, and thickness using micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, gauges, and other precision-measuring instruments.
• Perform complex programming using all features of the press brake.
• Work with tight tolerances to produce parts for assembly operations.
• Meet customer specifications and delivery requirements.
• Program the CNC to produce new parts meeting specifications.
• Perform spot inspections of parts.
• Perform all required routine and minor maintenance activities according to procedures.
• Complete and maintain paperwork.
• Identify assembly parts.
• Set up light gauge metal.
• Configure bend allowances for sheet metal (stainless, aluminum, and regular steel).
• Check machine for defects and repair if necessary.
• Ensure machine is calibrated and cleaned.
• Read drawings and blueprints.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Machine experience required.
• Basic reading skills and ability to follow directions.
• Basic computer navigation and utilization skills.
• Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
• Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve problems and produce new concepts.
• High attention to detail and self-motivation skills.
• Specific technical or vocational training or certification may be required; may be required to pass a ruler test.
• Regularly lift 30-50 pounds.
• Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
• Regularly possess manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
