Prescription Refill Nurse (LVN) IDS Call Center, Full-Time, Days
About the role
The LVN Medication Refill nurse processes prescription refill requests as clinically appropriate for patients within PIH Health. Reviews medical records to ensure refills are applicable according to practitioners’ orders and established protocols. Identifies potential issues with medication adherence and takes necessary steps to address them such as contacting patients and practitioners. Ensures accuracy in documenting medication refills within the patient’s medical record. Responsible for educating the caller regarding PIH Health’s medication refill policies and procedures utilizing knowledge of basic nursing principles, practices, ethics, and concepts. Answers incoming calls regarding medication refills from patients and pharmacies.
Responsibilities
- Process prescription refill requests as clinically appropriate
- Review medical records to ensure refills are applicable according to practitioners' orders and established protocols
- Identify potential issues with medication adherence and take necessary steps to address them, including contacting patients and practitioners
- Ensure accuracy in documenting medication refills within the patient's medical record
- Educate callers regarding PIH Health's medication refill policies and procedures utilizing knowledge of basic nursing principles, practices, ethics, and concepts
- Answer incoming calls regarding medication refills from patients and pharmacies
Qualifications
- Current California LVN license
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Card
- Minimum 1 year of experience processing medication refills
- Experience in direct nursing care in the medical office setting
Skills
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control and safety
- Good understanding of nursing principles
- Good understanding of patient/family teaching principles
- Knowledge of computer practice management systems and other computerized systems (Microsoft Office programs, electronic health record systems)
- Good communication skills
- Bilingual in Spanish helpful
