Preschool Teacher - Woodland

About the Role

The Preschool Teacher provides guidance for staff overseeing the activities of several groups of children and promotes a positive environment for children, parents, and staff. This role demonstrates an understanding of the developmental needs of children and families, strong communication skills, good judgment, and the ability to create an inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements programs in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA, coordinating activities that fit children’s developmental needs.
• Provides leadership for staff overseeing the activities of several groups of children.
• Supervises a group of children to ensure their health, safety, and a positive experience for each child.
• Communicates with and maintains positive relationships with families; may conduct conferences.
• Provides day-to-day leadership to staff and volunteers.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
• Provides assistance to supervisor and may fill in during temporary absences.
• Maintains the ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, cleanliness, and learning environment of the site.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Assists in the recruitment of members for the Parent Advisory Group.
• Demonstrates the "Character Counts" values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers, and fellow staff.
• Performs all other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Requirements

• 18 years of age or older.
• Current state-approved first-aid certification.
• Current state-approved community CPR certification.
• TB test by the Manitou method.
• Experience working with children the same age as those to be supervised.

Qualifications

Teacher qualifications for this program require one of the following:

• A permit issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing authorizing service in the care, development, and instruction of children in a child care and development program, including:
  • Regular Children’s Center Instructional Permit
  • Limited Children’s Center Instructional Permit
  • Emergency Children’s Center Instructional Permit
  • Child Development Master Teacher Permit
  • Child Development Teacher Permit
  • Child Development Associate Teacher Permit (Note: This permit authorizes the holder to supervise Assistant Permit holders and an aide.)
• OR a current credential issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing authorizing teaching service in elementary school or a single subject credential in home economics, and:
  • 12 units in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and/or Child Development (CD), OR
  • Two years’ experience in early childhood education or a child care and development program.

Pay

USD $19.00 - USD $24.00 per hour.
