About the role
The Teacher Pre-school/Toddler is responsible for the overall leadership, management and supervision of the classroom at the YMCA of Southern Maine. The position involves planning, implementing, and participating in programs that align with the YMCA's policies and philosophy. The role also includes actively swimming with students during swim time, creating an age-appropriate curriculum, completing incident and behavioral reports, and ensuring the classroom meets all applicable licensing standards.
Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and participate in programs in accordance with YMCA policies and philosophy.
- Swim with students during designated swim times.
- Create and implement an age-appropriate curriculum focusing on physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development.
- Complete incident and behavioral reports, provide daily feedback and reviews with parents as required, and complete student profiles and observations regularly.
- Ensure the classroom meets all applicable licensing standards and notify the Supervisor of any problems or concerns.
- Follow all Healthy Eating, Active Living (HEPA) and 5-2-1-0 guidelines.
- Enforce safety rules and maintain a safe environment in the classroom.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the classroom and within the facility.
- Provide age-appropriate materials for the classroom and rotate them quarterly (where applicable).
- Evaluate the needs of all children and adjust the curriculum accordingly.
- Complete all work in a timely manner, thoroughly, and satisfactorily.
- Attend required training and meetings, including monthly staff meetings and required training hours as determined by the Supervisor and DHHS/Accreditation Standards.
- Engage with branch and association leadership teams to plan and implement successful annual campaigns and special events, connecting donors with the YMCA's cause and raising funds to support its missions.
- Adhere to all YMCA Brand guidelines and receive prior approval for the use and creation of any YMCA-related social media from the Marketing department.
- Utilize the UKG Employee Portal consistently.
- Communicate effectively in person and on the phone with all levels of employees, members, parents, children, and school personnel.
- Show effective interpersonal skills with a customer service focus, work independently as well as within teams, possess attention to detail with excellent organizational and decision-making skills, be extremely reliable, dependable, and punctual, take initiative and be self-motivated, meet licensing standards for childcare centers, and pass a criminal background check.
- Have CPR and First Aid Certification (within 3 months of hire).
- Have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Requirements
- One year of experience working in age-appropriate childcare related positions.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Social Services, or a related field, or an Associate degree, certificate, CDA, Maine-approved credential, or coursework in ECE, Social Services, or a related field, combined with relevant professional experience.
