Preschool Teacher

2–5 years of experience in an ECE program, 12–24 ECE units (must be enrolled in units toward GE units), OR a CTC Associate Teacher permit. Must possess or qualify for an "Associate" Child Development Teaching Permit or higher; if not already held, must obtain within 6 months of employment. At least 6 months of classroom experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all NBCC policies and procedures as mandated by Executive, Program, and/or Educational Resource Director.
• Maintain general housekeeping tasks in cooperation with the teaching team to provide an orderly, professional environment.
• Obtain and maintain certification in Pediatric First Aid and Pediatric CPR as required by California State Licensing.
• Engage in regular self-assessment, goal setting, and participate in timely job performance evaluations with the Head Teacher and/or Site Supervisor.
• Obtain appropriate substitutes when absent, in cooperation with the Head Teacher, staff, and/or Site Supervisor.
• Attend all scheduled NBCC Staff Development Days.
• Work collegially as a team member with respect, trust, and professionalism with co-workers.
• Maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
• Support the teaching team in implementing specific child behavior plans, interventions, and resource referrals.
• Adhere to all CCL Personal Rights requirements; ensure children are not subjected to corporal or unusual punishment, including yelling, spanking, humiliation, or punitive interference with daily living functions.
• Provide warmth and positive attention to each child in the classroom.
• Recognize and respect each child’s cultural and ethnic background, responding to their unique needs with dignity.
• Foster positive self-esteem through respectful interactions with children and staff.
• Practice positive reinforcement and redirection methods.
• Maintain required supervision of children at all times (inside and outside) in accordance with California State Licensing ratio standards (aides without at least 12 CORE ECE units may not be left alone with children).
• Assist in maintaining a safe, orderly, and inviting classroom environment, including outside play areas.
• Conduct daily setup of classrooms and outside play areas to promote positive exploration and developmental progress.
• Maintain classroom documents such as daily meal counts, classroom rosters, and reports.
• Report all injuries incurred by children or staff to the Head Teacher or Site Supervisor in writing.
• Develop meaningful relationships with parents through open, responsive communication.
• Promptly direct any relevant feedback (positive or negative) to the Head Teacher and/or Site Supervisor.

Work Environment

• Noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
• Work both outdoors and indoors.
• Use computers, tablets, cell phones (if provided), and other office equipment.
• Work both independently and collaboratively with peers and supervisors.

Physical Demands

• Health clearance by a physician.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including squatting, bending, reaching, standing, and sitting.
• Proof of current immunizations (Measles, Pertussis, Influenza, COVID-19).
• Tuberculosis (T.B.) clearance within the past year.

Pay

$24–$28 per hour.
