About the role
The Preschool Teacher is responsible for leading a high-quality preschool classroom and implementing developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with the NJ Preschool Teaching & Learning Standards and Newark Board of Education program requirements. Teachers create safe, engaging learning environments that support children's social, emotional, and academic growth while building strong partnerships with families.
Responsibilities
- Implement high-quality instruction aligned with the NJ Preschool Teaching & Learning Standards and the Newark Board of Education curriculum
- Create safe, engaging learning environments that support children's social, emotional, and academic growth
- Observe and document children's development
- Analyze assessment data
- Collaborate with instructional coaches, family services staff, and program leadership to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university (Early Childhood Education or related field preferred)
- Valid New Jersey Preschool - Grade 3 Certification, or one of the following eligible credentials: Certificate of Eligibility (CE), Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS), Limited CE
- Minimum 3 years of classroom teaching experience with preschool-aged children preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Ability to observe, document, and assess children's development using data to inform instruction
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with children, families, teaching assistants, and program leadership
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional early childhood education team
