About the role

The Special Education Preschool Paraprofessional supports and assists the special education classroom teacher in implementing instructional programs. This includes presenting materials, assisting in creating a conducive learning environment, and providing feedback on student progress.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs assigned groups and individuals in the classroom and at designated times.
  • Presents materials within the content limitations of the system curriculum guides under the teacher's direction.
  • Aids in the implementation of programs that meet individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
  • Follows the provided classroom schedule and prepares for assigned groups or individuals.
  • Collects and provides IEP goal data as required.
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Enforces classroom rules and maintains order.
  • Assists in collecting and organizing student data.
  • Supports students with activities of daily living and performs basic health procedures as assigned.
  • Participates in training programs to enhance skills and proficiency related to job assignments.
  • Assists with specialized feeding requirements and positive behavioral support interventions.
  • Follows safety procedures and training protocols when lifting students and operating equipment.
  • Performs special duties as required for specific student populations.

Requirements

  • Qualify for a Paraprofessional Certificate through an Associate's Degree, 90 quarter hours/60 semester hours of college credit, or passing the Paraprofessional GACE exam.
  • Show the ability to organize and direct children in various activities and settings.
  • Have experience working with and directing the activities of young children, preferably those with Autism.

  • Ability to organize and direct small and large groups of children.
  • Ability to adjust to changing conditions and situations.
