About the role
The Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC) is seeking a Preschool Assistant Teacher to join their Youth Programs team. This role supports the Playschool Lead Teacher in creating a fun, safe, and engaging learning environment for children aged two years old.
Responsibilities
- Aid the Lead Teacher in caring for and supervising children aged two years old
- Prepare and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate classroom activities
- Create a warm, safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom
- Supervise children during classroom activities, playtime, and transitions
- Keep accurate attendance records and class rosters
- Communicate observations regarding children's development, behavior, and individual needs with the Lead Teacher
- Model positive behavior and utilize appropriate behavior management techniques
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a secure environment for children
- Build positive relationships with children, parents, members, and fellow team members
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and departmental meetings
- Complete required continuing education, including a minimum of 16 hours annually through OAEYC or an approved equivalent program
- Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance
- Follow all Club policies and Youth Programs procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to safely lift and carry children weighing up to 50 pounds
- Strong communication, teamwork, and customer service skills
- Sound judgment, patience, and professionalism while working with young children
- CPR, First Aid, and Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect certification, or the ability to obtain all required certifications within 90 days of hire
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (preferred)
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an assistant teacher in a preschool or early childhood education setting (preferred)
