PreOp/PACU Nurse

About the Role

American Surgery Center is a multi-specialty surgery center focused on providing quality outpatient and same-day surgery for a variety of specialties. We are seeking experienced OR, Pre-Op, and PACU nurses to grow our facility. The OR Nurse is accountable for patients during their perioperative experience. Surgical specialties currently include general surgery, ophthalmology, endoscopies, and bariatric, with plans to add more specialties in the future.

The right candidate will demonstrate technical and operational knowledge, apply these skills in the clinical setting, and collaborate effectively with physicians, ancillary services, and the team.

Responsibilities

• Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique, when applicable
• Performs surgical counts with circulator, when applicable
• Keeps proficient and knowledgeable of surgeon’s needs, techniques, and requirements; anticipates the surgeon’s needs in either the scrub or circulating role
• Assists in maintaining a safe and aseptic environment for patient and staff
• Uses proper technique for specimens and cultures, as directed by policies and procedures
• Administers drugs and manages drug-related problems that may occur
• Contains knowledge of anesthetic agents, techniques, actions, and interactions
• Demonstrates arrhythmia recognition and treatment
• Collaborates with staff and healthcare professionals to ensure customer satisfaction and shared goals are achieved
• Supports all UM and UMACO initiatives
• Uses, protects, and discloses patient’s protected health information (PHI) in accordance with Health Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
• Follows all United Medical policies, upholds professional standards, and performs work responsibilities respectfully
• Maintains consistent, reliable in-office attendance to foster a productive and collaborative work environment
• Performs other duties or projects as needed

Requirements

• Licensure as an RN in the State of Delaware
• BLS Certification
• Direct experience in ambulatory surgery
• ACLS – possess or obtain within 3 months of hire

Schedule

Full Time, Monday through Friday. No weekends or holidays.

• Typical OR shift: 7:00am–3:30pm
• Occasional need for 8:30am–5:00pm

About the PACU/Pre-op Nurse Role

The primary role of the PACU/Pre-op Nurse is to provide continuity of care to meet individual patient needs. This role entails assuming responsibility and accountability for the patient with proper collaboration from other healthcare providers. The PACU nurse provides care for post-operative patients recovering from anesthesia, including general, regional, and local.

Responsibilities (PACU/Pre-op)

• Possesses an exceptional understanding of operating room processes, patient flow, patient care coordination, and physician relationships
• Demonstrates strong professional, organizational, interpersonal skills, and creative leadership in working with all levels of the organization, patients, and their families
• Manages multiple priorities, organizes tasks, and maintains control of workflow
• Demonstrates a clear understanding of regulations applicable to surgical centers and patient care
• Uses skill in negotiation and conflict resolution
• Uses, protects, and discloses patient’s Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA standards
• Collaborates with staff and healthcare professionals to ensure customer satisfaction and shared goals
• Follows all United Medical policies, upholds professional standards, and performs work responsibilities respectfully
• Maintains consistent, reliable in-office attendance to foster a productive and collaborative work environment
• Performs other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications (PACU/Pre-op)

• RN License in the State of Delaware
• BLS Certification
• ACLS – possess or obtain within 3 months of hire
• 1 year of direct experience in ambulatory surgery

Schedule (PACU/Pre-op)

Full-Time positions available. Monday through Friday with no weekends or holidays.

• Pre-op shifts: 5:00am–1:30pm or as late as 6:30am–3:00pm
• PACU shifts: 7:30am–4:00pm or as late as 12:00pm–8:30pm
