Premium Auditor Associate

biBerk Business Insurance · Omaha, NE · 2 wk ago
Hybrid$20.52/hrFull-time

biBERK, a Berkshire Hathaway company, is an internet-driven provider of business insurance—including workers’ compensation, liability, commercial auto, and umbrella policies—to small business owners nationwide. We are experiencing substantial growth and are looking for enthusiastic premium auditors (experienced or entry-level) to join and grow with our team.

About the role

The premium auditor conducts Worker’s Compensation insurance audits and may also audit other lines such as General Liability and Professional Liability (Errors and Omissions). The audit determines the customer’s actual insurance exposure and processes adjustments to ensure appropriate premiums are billed. The auditor reviews payroll records, tax filings, and other documents, interviews customers by phone to gather business operations and employee-job details, and inputs the findings into our database. If a customer disputes the results, the auditor addresses those concerns to ensure accurate billing.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze payroll, tax, and accounting records to determine the appropriate premium base for Worker’s Compensation, General Liability, and Professional Liability (Errors and Omissions).
  • Obtain descriptions of business operations, employee job duties, and other relevant information via phone and email.
  • Determine if proper insurance classification codes have been assigned according to state manuals and suggest class-code changes when appropriate.
  • Adjust premiums based on state-manual rules (officer wage adjustments, premium overtime credits, tip credits, etc.).
  • Complete audit worksheets using an Excel template and process audit findings in our database.
  • Provide superior customer service throughout the audit process.
  • Resolve customer disputes regarding audit results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (finance, business, accounting).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and aptitude to learn other software applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a high accuracy rate.
  • Strong critical thinking and organizational skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve and exercise good judgment.
  • Strong reading comprehension to interpret and apply manual rules.
  • Self-motivated with excellent time-management skills.
  • Desire to continuously learn.
  • Previous related work experience (Worker’s Compensation, General Liability, and/or Professional Insurance) preferred but not required.
