PREDOCTORAL RESEARCHER POSITION TO WORK ON INTEGRATED ELECTROCHEMICAL PROCESSES FOR HYDROGEN PRODUCTION, WASTEWATER DECONTAMINATION AND RESOURCE RECOVERY

About the role

IMDEA Energy Institute, a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence, is seeking a motivated Predoctoral Researcher to join the Electrochemical Processes Unit. The position focuses on integrated electrochemical processes for hydrogen production, wastewater decontamination, and resource recovery. The role involves research, development, and dissemination of scientific results in collaboration with leading energy sector partners.

Responsibilities

• Research on innovative materials for hydrogen production and pollutant removal.
• Synthesis, formulation, and electrochemical characterization of electrode materials.
• Use of advanced characterization and analytical techniques such as SEM, XRD, XPS, N2 Adsorption Isotherms, Raman, FTIR, Gas Chromatography, and Ion Chromatography.
• Manufacturing components for electrochemical cells.
• Assembly and testing of electrochemical cells.
• Communicate and disseminate research results through high-quality scientific channels, including high-impact publications and conference presentations.
• Supervision of Master or undergraduate students.

Requirements

• Compulsory: Official Master degree in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.

Qualifications

• Specific training or proven skills in removal of ions from contaminated liquid effluents.
• Specific training or hands-on experience with electrochemical energy storage and/or conversion devices.
• Hands-on experience with Infrared spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction, or Raman spectroscopy techniques.
• Experience in writing scientific publications.
• Proficient oral and written communication skills in English.

Conditions

• Remuneration: Between €22,000 – €25,000 per year, depending upon qualification and expertise.
• The contract includes all the benefits of the Spanish Public Health and Social Security System.
• Duration of the contract: One year.
