About the Role
The Pre-construction Manager has primary responsibility for the Strategic Business Unit’s (SBU) pre-construction activities, ensuring predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers while upholding "Constructing with Integrity" through honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
Responsibilities
- Champion “The Layton Way” by delivering predictable outcomes for teams and customers.
- Provide leadership for estimating and planning support personnel.
- Monitor project budgeting and buy-out processes to ensure reliable estimating information.
- Facilitate communication of cost history for ongoing evaluation of pricing and cost modeling.
- Monitor planning support processes to ensure efficient and effective resource use.
- Interface with marketing to incorporate relevant information, issues, and brand recognition.
- Assist in evaluating, planning, and executing new scope of services and profit centers.
- Monitor productivity and cost control on SBU projects.
- Attend project review meetings and facilitate solutions to budget problems.
- Plan and implement training for SBU estimators and business development professionals.
- Identify and procure profitable projects by overseeing business development activities, including customer relationships, networking, public relations, and client database management.
- Oversee sales activities, including lead qualification, procurement strategies, proposal development, and responses to RFQs, SOQs, and RFPs.
- Establish goals, procedures, systems, and tools for sales/marketing tasks within the SBU.
- Commit the company in the project procurement process for SBU projects.
- Supervise Estimating and Business Development activities and personnel, taking responsibility for team successes and failures.
- Collaborate with Business Unit Executives, Estimating and Planning Support Personnel, and clients.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- BS in Construction Management, Marketing and/or Communication, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 6–10 years of experience in healthcare construction.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Strong problem-solving skills: define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Proficient in personal computer skills, including email, record keeping, databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and delegate assignments.
- Experience with CMiC preferred.
- Knowledge of estimating software preferred.
Pay
The full salary range for this position is $130,000 to $170,000, with eligibility for a target bonus.
