About the role
Preconstruction Managers at DPR Construction will work on negotiated commercial projects primarily in healthcare, advanced technology, higher education, life sciences, and corporate office sectors.
Responsibilities
- Handle the project from first estimate all the way through subcontracts being formalized.
- Look beyond given information to ask the right questions and provide a complete project cost evaluation.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors as a collaborative and passionate advocate for customers.
- Provide innovative solutions to complex issues related to cost, lead-times, trade partners, and specified products or materials.
- Make reliable cost predictions and be comfortable estimating across all scopes of work.
- Prepare detailed conceptual cost estimates and conceptual cost studies from schematic or feasibility-level documentation.
- Develop variance summaries between estimates and value engineering studies throughout the project's evolution.
- Assemble a complete presentation-worthy estimate package that clearly communicates project cost.
- Collaborate with the project team to establish necessary specifications and unit costs.
- Prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade-specific clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
- Solicit bids, communicate with bidders, evaluate subcontractor proposals, and use bid tally sheets.
- Recommend subcontractor awards to customers/owners and negotiate and finalize subcontracts with trade partners.
- Lead the preparation and presentation of cost/budget information to customers/owners.
- Engage and develop business with new and existing customers.
- Lead and facilitate value engineering sessions with the project team and design team.
- Participate and often lead RFP responses and the formal presentation for a project.
- Review construction contracts and identify key insurance and damages clauses.
- Manage and motivate project teams during the preconstruction phase of a project.
Qualifications

- Effective participation in team environments, both externally and internally.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, estimating software (WinEst, Timberline or similar), take-off software (On-Screen Takeoff or similar), BIM tools (Revit, Assemble, etc.), project management software (CMiC or similar), and scheduling software (Primavera or similar).
- 8+ years of experience as a commercial construction estimator, preferably within the healthcare market.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- A strong work ethic and a “can-do” attitude.
