About the Role

Prism Electric is one of the most successful open-shop electrical contracting companies in Texas with expanding opportunities and growth in the Oklahoma market. Based in Garland, Prism Electric has expertise in virtually every field of electrical construction, including design/build services, industrial and commercial developments, as well as government and institutional projects. The successful Preconstruction Manager works closely with the Project Manager and owner during the design phase of design-build, design-assist, and integrated projects, coordinating other preconstruction resources to ensure successful project delivery.

This position serves as the key interface between the preconstruction group and the operations group, responsible for designing and developing value-added technical pricing and design solutions from concept through completion of detailed drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and maintain contact with GC and A/E contacts to facilitate a successful preconstruction process.
  • Prepare preliminary, schematic, design development, and construction document estimates and studies during preconstruction.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all estimates.
  • Continuously monitor cost trends to detect over-runs and potential problem areas during preconstruction phases.
  • Participate in design decisions, evaluations, studies, value engineering, value analysis, scheduling, and constructability reviews.
  • Assure that estimates, including general conditions, are accurate, complete, and reflect the actual requirements of the project.
  • Maintain current estimating records, studies, unit prices, etc.
  • Evaluate and analyze subcontractor proposals in preparation of subcontracts.
  • Participate in the preparation of construction schedules for estimating purposes.
  • Discuss staffing requirements with operations in preparation for building a project team.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement of the business.
  • Identify new work opportunities and inform Sales and Marketing of potential projects with current clients.
  • Support Business Development in proposal presentations, interviews, etc., and assist Sales/Marketing in building General Contractor and Architect/Engineer relationships.
  • Coordinate with marketing on the assembly of preconstruction materials for presentation purposes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of estimating experience related to commercial and/or industrial projects.
  • Experience with large commercial and industrial projects (concept to close-out).
  • Strong computer software skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong employment stability.
  • Knowledge of Accubid.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
