Preconstruction Manager

About the role

As a Preconstruction Manager at Choate Construction, you play a critical role in setting projects up for success by leading the preconstruction phase with clarity, discipline, and collaboration. This role is designed for construction professionals with 6–10 years of overall construction experience, including approximately three years of hands-on estimating experience, who are ready to take ownership of increasingly complex pursuits.

Responsibilities

• Daily management, coordination, and successful execution of preconstruction efforts
• Serving as a key bridge between early-stage planning and execution
• Partnering closely with the Director of Preconstruction and Project Management teams
• Overseeing estimating, bidding, scheduling, and contracting activities to achieve accurate, competitive, and achievable cost objectives
• Building and sustaining trusted relationships with clients, designers, and trade partners
• Leading the preconstruction process with ownership, developing detailed estimates, cost models, and bid strategies that align project objectives with operational realities
• Proactively identifying new opportunities, contributing to pursuits, presentations, and business development efforts
• Staying engaged in the industry and invested in people, keeping current with construction trends while mentoring team members and supporting long-term career growth within the company

Requirements

You must have a disciplined approach to risk management, ensuring estimates are complete and accurate, contract risks are identified early, and key terms are clearly understood and communicated.

Qualifications

• 6–10 years of overall construction experience, including approximately three years of hands-on estimating experience
• A clear and credible communicator, viewed by owners as an advocate, by designers as a collaborator, and by subcontractors as a trusted and fair partner
• A disciplined approach to risk management, ensuring estimates are complete and accurate, contract risks are identified early, and key terms are clearly understood and communicated
• A leader in the preconstruction process with ownership, developing detailed estimates, cost models, and bid strategies that align project objectives with operational realities
• Proactive identification of new opportunities, contributing to pursuits, presentations, and business development efforts
• Engagement in the industry and investment in people, keeping current with construction trends while mentoring team members and supporting long-term career growth within the company
