About the role

Our solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and solid oxide electrolyzer (SOEC) technologies deliver energy abundance for all, with over 30,000 fuel cell modules deployed worldwide. We are seeking a Preconstruction Manager to join our team in San Jose, CA. This fully on-site role reports to the Sr. Manager Construction Services and operates in-office 5 days a week.
Responsibilities
- Handle buyout of project subcontracted activities from first budget estimate through formalization of contracts.
- Assemble presentation-worthy estimate packages that clearly communicate project costs.
- Understand unit costs and factors affecting construction costs.
- Prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade-specific clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
- Manage the bidding process: create RFP packages, solicit bids, communicate with bidders, evaluate proposals, and level bids.
- Perform detailed scope, schedule, and cost analyses of contractor bids to identify optimal procurement options aligned with business targets, budget constraints, and quality standards.
- Coordinate cross-functional feedback to ensure purchased services meet all technical, business, commercial, and legal requirements.
- Prepare and present cost/budget information to internal teams.
- Participate in request for proposal (RFP) responses and formal project presentations.
- Lead and facilitate value engineering sessions with the project and design teams.
- Collect performance data and present metrics to support strategic decisions regarding contractor partnerships.
- Support internal processes for setting up new vendors, issuing purchase orders, expediting payments, and managing changes.
- Drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis of pain points, proposing solutions, and implementing process improvements.
- Source and contract new subcontractors and third-party vendors as required for project scope.
- Source and contract third-party services including load banks, generators, transformers, craning, rigging, and inspections.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or five (5) years of relevant work experience.
- Highly motivated with effective communication skills and a strong ability to work in a high-performing team environment.
- Customer service focus with knowledge of all aspects of construction, including planning, equipment, methods, cost control, safety requirements, and procurement.
- Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels and with external customers and vendors.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

Pay
Salary range: $114,800.00 - $165,200.00, based on relevant skills and experience.
