Precision Machine Operator

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Machining Plano and cylinder mirrors and lens components to drawing, engineering specifications, and/or Coherent standard specifications on a diamond flycut machine.
• Handling parts in a manner that prevents damage.
• Measuring critical dimensions of parts before processing to ensure they meet blank specifications.
• Understanding and utilizing correct machine setup for various materials.
• Performing tool set-up according to established procedures.
• Accurately balancing the flywheel and making head tilt adjustments.
• Maintaining process notes to record key manufacturing parameters and issues.
• Maintaining first-time yield documentation.
• Solving minor problems independently and reporting to supervisor or shift lead.
• Ensuring production activities are accurate.
• Completing quality documentation and maintaining machine maintenance and incident reports.
• Developing an understanding of QA procedures for testing flycut diamond turned components.
• Multitasking and running multiple machines to maximize production output.
• Reporting errors and accidents immediately to the shift lead, maintenance supervisor, or engineers.
• Supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Verifying all setups to prevent machine crashes.
• Following Coherent and departmental safety practices and procedures.
• Maintaining equipment based on preventative schedules.
• Reporting maintenance requirements and anomalies promptly to the supervisor.

Education & Experience

• High school graduate or GED.
• 0-2 years’ manufacturing experience.

• Well-developed communication and organizational skills.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to handle diverse detailed tasks.
• Ability to work independently and adjust to daily work requirements.
• Ability to read drawings and engineering notes.
• Critical math skills.
• Strong attention to detail and quality.

Physical Requirements

• Long periods of standing.
• Consistent attention to several pieces of equipment.
• Effective multitasking on a multitude of tasks.

Working Conditions

• Clean room environment within manufacturing plant.
• Use of high-precision machines and metrology equipment.

• Depending on location, may be responsible for executing and maintaining ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable standards.
• Executing and maintaining the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
