Precertification Specialist

Baptist Health is the largest healthcare system serving central Alabama, providing comprehensive hospital-based and outpatient services to nearly 60 percent of the residents in Montgomery, Autauga and Elmore counties.

About the role

The Pre-Certification Specialist is responsible for obtaining pre-certification of outpatient and office procedures, scheduling all procedures, and precertifying. Assists patients with questions regarding insurance or eligibility and communicates effectively and efficiently with physicians and staff. Responsible for contacting third party payers in a timely fashion and providing notification of a member's need for procedures.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalency required
• Two years clerical experience required
• Experience in healthcare services preferred
• Knowledge of body mechanics and basic safety principles
• Ability to use accurate spelling and proper grammar
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Typing, computer, and telephone skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
• Ability to communicate and understand medical terminology
• Ability to effectively communicate with people of various backgrounds
• Ability to coordinate tasks and work within time constraints

Working Conditions

• Position requires sitting for 80% of the workday and mobility 20% of the workday
• Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
• Frequent reaching, use of hands, and repetitive action
• Occasional lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 150 pounds
• Continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person
• Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range
• Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes
• Minimal noise levels
• Much exposure to computer work
• Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock
• Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks
• Some exposure to hazardous chemicals
• Occasional exposure to radiation
