Pre-school Teacher Aide
Part-time, non-exempt position for 20 hours per week at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School in Casa Grande.
Primary Function
Under the direction of the School Principal, serve as a role model and support the Diocese of Tucson in its mission to evangelize, catechize, and educate youth in a Catholic School environment. The Aide must be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally while at work and in personal life, living in a manner worthy of the call received (Eph. 4:1).
Responsibilities
- Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the School by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church; may not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with these teachings.
- Demonstrate living Gospel values as an active member of a faith community, modeling the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
- Help build the school's faith community by participating in and helping plan religious and service activities.
- Assist the classroom teacher with student supervision, including lessons, small-group activities, calendar time, circle time, and learning centers.
- Help with classroom transitions and daily routines.
- Assist with snack preparation and cleanup.
- Supervise parent helpers and ensure compliance with safe environment and other school requirements.
- Assist with the school lunch program and playground/recess supervision as necessary.
- Communicate effectively with students, organize classroom learning and materials, and support field trips to motivate student learning.
- Consistently and effectively assist in the evaluation of student progress.
- Support a consistent disciplinary approach that promotes self-direction, positive self-image, and learning motivation.
- Provide positive support and encouragement to students.
- Maintain a functional and pleasant learning environment.
- Demonstrate professional responsibility in all tasks, displaying sound judgment in dress and general behavior.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A working knowledge of and strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church.
- If baptized Catholic, must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter, well-organized, and a team player.
- Availability for evening and weekend work as necessary.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in computer technology, including word processing; ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies, adapting appropriately in a school environment.
- Professional bearing and clean, neat personal appearance.
- Complete a criminal history and background check.
- Valid and current Arizona DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Maintain a current TB test, CPR certification, and Food Handler’s Card.
- Complete 18 hours per school year of training through the AZ Early Childhood Workforce Registry.
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or GED.
- Preferred: Previous classroom experience.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability.
- Ability to lift as required in a normal classroom environment.
Required activities: Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding.
