About the role

As a Pre-Registration Clerk, you will verify patient information for accurate billing, precertification, and patient cost estimations. You will ensure timely and precise submission of billing information to insurance carriers while providing excellent customer service to resolve patient inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Verify patient information for accurate billing, precertification, and patient cost estimations.
  • Verify eligibility, benefits, and precertification for scheduled outpatient surgeries/procedures.
  • Notify scheduled patients of estimated amounts due and attempt to collect self-pay balances prior to services rendered.
  • Communicate with admitting staff regarding amounts to collect at the time of service.
  • Edit necessary information for proper billing to ensure accuracy and timely submission to insurance carriers.
  • Apply customer service skills to resolve patient inquiries and concerns about hospital accounts.
  • Organize and prioritize work with minimal supervision, exhibiting good judgment and knowledge of ethical and legal billing procedures.
  • Stay informed of changes in billing and precertification procedures affecting processes and reimbursement.
  • Meet department goals and communicate relevant information with coding, clinical, hospital, billing, and registration staff.
  • Greet patients and visitors, answer inquiries, and refer questions to appropriate staff members.
  • Monitor the creation, maintenance, and distribution of required hospital and insurance documents.
  • Scan and archive important patient information and documentation.
  • Identify learning opportunities and seek guidance in new or unfamiliar situations.
  • Refer patients concerned about payment to Patient Accounts.
  • Act as a resource for staff and hospital departments regarding questions and problems.
  • Assist in the training and orientation of staff.
  • Provide coverage for Central Wide Scheduling (CWS) as needed.
  • Complete projects assigned by the CWS Director or Insurance Coordinator.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic office skills such as keyboarding and filing.
  • 3 months to 1 year of experience.
