Job Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive pre-operative history and physical examinations
- Assess and stratify surgical risk, including cardiac and pulmonary risk evaluation
- Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests (labs, EKGs, imaging, etc.)
- Optimize chronic medical conditions prior to surgery
- Cook up patient care with primary care providers, specialists, and surgical teams
- Develop and implement evidence-based pre-operative care plans
- Educate patients on surgical preparation, medication management, and post-operative expectations
- Ensure all required documentation, consents, and clearances are completed before surgery
- Collaborate with anesthesia providers regarding surgical readiness
- Document all patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
- Certification & Licensure: Current Arizona NP or PA license (or ability to obtain), board certification (FNP, AGACNP, or PA-C)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Experience: 1–2 years of experience in internal medicine, hospital medicine, urgent care, or perioperative care; experience with pre-operative evaluations and risk stratification preferred
