Responsibilities
- Oversee the pre-litigation department, including Pre-Litigation Managers and Case Managers
- Manage a substantial caseload from intake through settlement or litigation referral
- Remain directly involved in approximately 100–120 active cases valued at $250,000 or more
- Evaluate prospective clients and determine whether matters meet the firm’s case acceptance standards
- Assess liability, damages, available insurance coverage and overall case value
- Guide the medical management and strategic development of personal injury cases
- Review medical records, billing records, police reports and supporting documentation
- Handle settlement negotiations with insurance carriers, opposing parties and other stakeholders
- Maintain thorough case notes and documentation within the firm’s case management system
- Communicate directly with clients regarding case developments, expectations and legal strategy
- Collaborate with Case Managers, Medical Records Coordinators, operations leadership and litigation attorneys
- Monitor statutes of limitations, government claim deadlines and other critical legal dates
- Draft, prepare and file pre-litigation lawsuits and legal pleadings when necessary
- Identify cases requiring escalation into formal litigation
- Advise team members on complex matters, treatment issues and case strategy
- Ensure files are complete, accurate and progressing according to firm standards
Requirements
- Active license to practice law in California
- At least five years of plaintiff-side pre-litigation personal injury experience
- Experience managing at least 100–120 high-value cases worth $250,000 or more
- Management experience overseeing Paralegals, Case Managers or other legal support professionals
- Expert knowledge of medical treatment management and the lifecycle of a personal injury case
- Strong client intake and case-vetting experience
- Advanced settlement negotiation skills
- Thorough understanding of statutes of limitations and calendaring requirements
- Knowledge of government claim procedures and applicable filing deadlines
- Experience handling matters involving motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, dog bites, wrongful death, commercial claims and government entities
- Ability to manage a demanding caseload, competing priorities and different working styles
Preferred Qualifications
- Admission to practice law in an additional state
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish
- Experience using Filevine and HubSpot
