About the role

Reporting directly to the Director of the Pre-Professional Advising Center within the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Pre-Law Advisor advises undergraduate students and alumni interested in pursuing careers in the legal professions—from beginning exploration of attending law school through the law school admission process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (required)
  • Master's degree in relevant field (preferred)
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree strongly preferred
  • 3 - 5 years of related experience (required)
  • Experience working with diverse constituencies
  • Experience working in diverse educational contexts including HSI, AANAPISI
  • Experience in legal education or practice
  • Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques
  • Knowledge of multiple majors, colleges, and schools
  • Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving
  • Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Thorough knowledge of department/school college policies, procedures, and requirements
  • Ability to travel in a professional capacity
  • Ability to host and participate in programming and events, occasionally on evenings and weekends

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of college/school policies, procedures, and requirements
  • Demonstrated understanding of law school admissions landscape
  • Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills
  • Knowledge of pre-law student population and UCR student body with a large percentage of first-generation college students
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience with databases, web applications and electronic communications
  • Demonstrated record of commitment to equity in higher education

Pay

$58,800.00 - $101,220.00 annually. Expected pay scale: $58,800.00 - $71,000.00 annually.
