About the role
Reporting directly to the Director of the Pre-Professional Advising Center within the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Pre-Law Advisor advises undergraduate students and alumni interested in pursuing careers in the legal professions—from beginning exploration of attending law school through the law school admission process.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (required)
- Master's degree in relevant field (preferred)
- Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree strongly preferred
- 3 - 5 years of related experience (required)
- Experience working with diverse constituencies
- Experience working in diverse educational contexts including HSI, AANAPISI
- Experience in legal education or practice
- Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques
- Knowledge of multiple majors, colleges, and schools
- Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving
- Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems
- Ability to multi-task
- Thorough knowledge of department/school college policies, procedures, and requirements
- Ability to travel in a professional capacity
- Ability to host and participate in programming and events, occasionally on evenings and weekends
Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of college/school policies, procedures, and requirements
- Demonstrated understanding of law school admissions landscape
- Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills
- Knowledge of pre-law student population and UCR student body with a large percentage of first-generation college students
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated experience with databases, web applications and electronic communications
- Demonstrated record of commitment to equity in higher education
Pay
$58,800.00 - $101,220.00 annually. Expected pay scale: $58,800.00 - $71,000.00 annually.
