Pre-Kindergarten Aide - St. John School - Hollywood Maryland

About the role

This is a full-time role reporting to the Principal.

Responsibilities

• Catholic Identity: Actively foster and support Catholic beliefs, traditions and practices. Reflect the Catholic Church's teaching on social justice and witness service to others.
• Liturgical Services: Assist in the planning of liturgical ceremonies such as mass, penance services, prayer services, etc. Lead and encourage prayer in the classroom.
• Planning: Discuss assigned duties with the classroom teacher to coordinate instruction. Prepare instructional lessons and teaching aids.
• Instruction: Work with small groups to reinforce previously taught material and provide remedial help. Administer make-up work and assessments. Help plan and deliver individual and group instruction.
• Classroom Management: Support and enforce classroom procedures to optimize instructional time. Maintain a positive learning environment based on mutual respect and cooperation. Set high expectations for achievement.
• Communication: Use formal and informal assessments to inform classroom teachers of progress. Attend parent conferences and communicate regularly with the classroom teacher.
• Non-Instructional Duties: Perform duties such as carpool, recess, lunch, and classroom teacher substitution. Sponsor clubs and other school activities. Attend Home and School meetings and professional development meetings.

Qualifications

Knowledge of child development and supervision. While a conscientious effort has been made to include all duties and expectations, the position's responsibilities may be expanded or modified at the discretion of the classroom teacher or principal.
