Pre-K Teacher

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Pre-K Director, the Pre-K Teacher provides a developmentally appropriate instructional program that supports the academic, social, emotional, physical, and language development of young learners. The teacher implements curriculum approved by the Lee County School System and Georgia's Pre-K Program (Bright from the Start), creates a safe and engaging learning environment, monitors student progress, collaborates with families and staff, and ensures compliance with all applicable district, state, and program requirements.

About the Role

The Pre-K Teacher plans and delivers developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS), district curriculum, and Georgia's Pre-K Program requirements. They create and maintain a safe, positive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes student learning, independence, and appropriate social interactions.

Responsibilities

• Plans and delivers developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS), district curriculum, and Georgia's Pre-K Program requirements.
• Creates and maintains a safe, positive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes student learning, independence, and appropriate social interactions.
• Designs instructional activities that support physical development, social-emotional development, language and literacy, communication, cognitive development, mathematics, science, social studies, creative development, and approaches to play and learning.
• Affords differentiated instruction to support students with varying abilities and learning needs, including students receiving specialized services.
• Maintains accurate student records, documentation, attendance, assessment data, and other records required by the district, Georgia's Pre-K Program, and applicable laws.
• Establishes and maintains effective classroom management procedures consistent with district policies and school expectations.
• Communicates regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, classroom activities, and educational needs while encouraging family engagement.
• Collaborates with administrators, instructional staff, support personnel, and other stakeholders to support student success and program effectiveness.
• Supervises students at all times during the instructional day, including classroom activities, transitions, meals, recess, transportation, and other school-sponsored activities as assigned.
• Maintains compliance with all federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, district policies, and Georgia's Pre-K Program requirements.
• Demonstrates professionalism, ethical conduct, and continuous professional growth.

Requirements

Knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate instructional practices.
Knowledge of the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS) and Georgia's Pre-K Program requirements.
Knowledge of effective classroom management and instructional strategies.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, State Board rules, and district policies governing education.
Ability to assess student progress and use assessment data to guide instruction.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community partners.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities.
Ability to effectively utilize instructional technology and district-approved software applications.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.

Qualifications

• Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
• Typical qualifications would be equivalent to: A valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) teaching certificate appropriate for the assignment.
• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field.
• A master's degree preferred.
• Successful teaching experience in early childhood education is preferred.
