Employment Status: 7 hours/day
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 6 months working with children in preschool setting preferred
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Teamwork ability
- Must be able to successfully complete Food Handlers Permit requirements by BAPS on hire
Responsibilities
Instructional Support
- Assist with individual student instruction using lessons developed by the teacher, including written and oral materials
- Support supplementary work for students and direct independent study under the teacher’s supervision
- Reinforce lessons with small groups of students
- Perform miscellaneous clerical tasks (e.g., copying, filing) as directed by the teacher
- Assist the teacher in observing, recording, and charting behavior
- Monitor the class when the teacher is out of the room
- Implement positive discipline strategies as directed by site/district initiatives; respect and follow through with the teacher’s discipline decisions and methods
- Assist in assembling and updating bulletin board materials and displays
- Help with classroom set-up and preparation of materials for specialized instructional units, including food prep and cleanup
Non-Instructional Support
- Supervise students wherever directed to ensure student welfare
- Accompany students from the classroom to other areas as needed
- Supervise playground and lunchtime activities, including inside/outside recess, assisting students through the lunch line, serving food in the classroom, and monitoring the class during lunch
- Assist with general classroom organization (e.g., lockers, cubbies, bags)
- Support the physical care of students, such as feeding, washing, and toileting

Attendance
Able to maintain 95% attendance for assigned responsibilities.
Environmental Conditions
- Primarily indoor working conditions with some exposure to environmental factors during duty assignments
- Some outside duty assignments with exposure to pollen, heat, cold, wind, humidity, or other weather conditions
- Exposure to bodily fluids
- Noise level may be loud at a standard level for students of this age
Physical Standards
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear
- Frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
- Must act quickly to ensure student safety
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs (e.g., assisting children, rearranging classroom furniture)
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision
