Serves as a Licensed Practical Nurse within Lyster Army Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) located in the Primary Care Clinic at Fox Army Health Clinic, Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL.

About the Role

Fox Army Health Center (FAHC) provides access to quality and cost-effective primary care for patients while maintaining a state of readiness for mobilization. The mission of the health center is to “Provide responsive, innovative and reliable health services, influencing health to improve readiness, save lives and advance wellness in support of the force, military Families, and all those entrusted to our care.” FAHC is striving to become the premier model of organizational and beneficiary wellness through the Army’s medical community.

FAHC’s Patient Centered Medical Home is comprised of three teams: Blue Team, Red Team, and White Team. The Blue Team optimizes the health, well-being, and medical readiness of Soldiers through Warfighter Medicine, providing physical exams, medical readiness, and deployment screenings. The Red & White Team provides comprehensive medical care to beneficiaries, including adult and family medicine, pediatrics, and minor outpatient procedures.

All TRICARE Prime patients enrolled at FAHC will have a Primary Care Manager (PCM) and coordinate specialty care through their PCM to ensure continuity and appropriateness of referrals. The Advice Nurse system is available after normal business hours. FAHC also offers outpatient pharmacy, laboratory, radiological, and behavioral health services, as well as a Wellness Center for health education, environmental health activities, and communicable disease surveillance.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations, pain level, height, weight, head circumference, and length; perform behavioral health screenings.
  • Provide individualized nursing care based on the physician’s medical care plan, nursing assessment, and the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional needs.
  • Obtain intravenous (IV) access and prepare medications and immunizations for administration.
  • Review immunization records and unit Standard Operating Procedures to select required immunizations, correct dosages, and routes of administration.
  • Administer oral, intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular immunizations to all age groups via established protocols.
  • Educate patients and/or family regarding self-care procedures and document teaching.
  • Instruct patients and/or family on normal vs. adverse reactions to immunizations and treatment for normal reactions of discomfort.
  • Review laboratory results and bring abnormal results to the attention of the physician.
  • Document patients' chief complaints and other pertinent information in the health record.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • A current license to practice as a practical or vocational nurse in a State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • At least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.

Special incentives that may be authorized include recruitment/relocation incentive, student loan repayment, and advance in-hire.

Pay

Up to $52,957 per year.
