About the role
Apply insulating materials to pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical systems to help control and maintain temperature in industrial environments.
Responsibilities
- Apply, remove, and repair insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork, heat exchangers, tanks, and vessels to control noise and maintain temperatures.
- Cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces or access holes with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement, or asphalt mastic.
- Determine the amounts and types of insulation needed and methods of installation based on location, surface shape, and equipment use.
- Fit insulation around obstructions and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as required.
- Install sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws to protect insulation from weather or physical damage.
- Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces using tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors.
- Prepare surfaces for insulation by applying adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or by attaching metal pins.
- Read blueprints and specifications to determine job requirements.
- Select appropriate insulation such as fiberglass, Styrofoam, or cork based on heat-retaining or excluding characteristics.
- Distribute insulating materials evenly into small spaces within floors, ceilings, or walls using blowers and hose attachments.
- Fill blower hoppers with insulating materials.
Requirements
- Minimum three (3) years of industrial insulating experience.
- Four (4) years of experience in power plant or maintenance preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to complete hiring paperwork electronically via DocuSign.
- May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform technical duties and essential functions.
- Must be able to move in and around confined spaces and uneven areas.
- Must have full range of motion consistent with age.
- Must be able to climb and maintain balance on ladders.
- Must be able to adequately hear and respond to voice commands, alarms, and other job-related noises.
- Visual acuity, depth perception, and color discrimination consistent with working at heights and on uneven surfaces.
- Safety/steel-toe shoes are required.
