About the role

We are looking for a Power Systems Automation Instructor. This position will be based in Wendell, NC.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instructor-led and hands-on lab training on substation automation, telecontrol, communications networks, Siemens SICAM automation solutions, and microgrid applications
  • Design, develop, and maintain modular courseware including slides, labs, simulations, job aids, and assessments for classroom, virtual, and blended learning environments
  • Explain automation architectures, control logic, and troubleshooting workflows so participants can confidently apply concepts during real-world commissioning and operations
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product lifecycle, engineering, services, and sales teams to ensure training aligns with product updates and customer needs
  • Adapt training to customer requirements by tailoring content for different roles and experience levels while keeping sessions practical and applied
  • Review participant feedback and training KPIs to continuously improve course quality, labs, and delivery methods
  • Mentor and prepare backup instructors or subject matter experts to support scalable training delivery

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • 5+ years of experience with the following:
    • Substation automation systems, SCADA, or telecontrol solutions
    • RTU and/or PLC configuration, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting experience
    • Industrial or substation networking and communications (such as Ethernet, IEC 61850 concepts, DNP3, Modbus, or OPC)
    • Ability to read and explain control logic, functional diagrams, wiring/terminal drawings, and system architecture diagrams
    • Understanding of Ethernet networking concepts and industrial/substation communications
    • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting automation, communications, and configuration issues

Qualifications

  • Basic Qualifications: Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience delivering technical training or mentoring engineers, technicians, or operators; field experience with commissioning, site testing, or troubleshooting of automation systems; exposure to microgrid control systems, distributed energy resources, or power automation applications; basic understanding of cybersecurity practices in industrial control systems (e.g., IEC 62443, NERC CIP); familiarity with Siemens automation platforms or similar industry solutions; experience developing hands-on labs, simulations, or technical learning materials; knowledge of IEEE standards or industry regulations related to power protection and distribution

Pay

The pay range for this position is $74,970 - $128,520 annually. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
