Power System Engineer
About the role
The Power System Engineer will perform electrical Power System studies for substations, data centers, industrial plants, solar plants, and wind farms. Responsibilities include conducting engineering calculations such as short-circuit analysis, cable ampacity sizing, load flow analysis, and AC/DC voltage drop calculations. Designing and delivering HV and EHV substation projects for power utilities and the interconnection of renewables and data centers is also part of the role. Preparation of substation P&C design packages, including single-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, and providing construction support and inter-disciplinary coordination are additional duties.
Responsibilities
- Perform electrical Power System studies for substations, data centers, industrial plants, solar plants, and wind farms
- Conduct engineering calculations such as short-circuit analysis, cable ampacity sizing, load flow analysis, and AC/DC voltage drop calculations
- Design and deliver HV and EHV substation projects for power utilities and the interconnection of renewables and data centers
- Prepare substation P&C design packages including single-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, control house layout, cable schedules, relay panel front and rear layout, cable tray layout, and bills of materials to quality, time, and budget requirements
- Support in substation studies and calculations including AC auxiliary system sizing, battery sizing, and voltage drop
- Provide construction support and inter-disciplinary coordination
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering
- At least 4 years of experience in the Power System studies related to substation and Industrial facilities
- Strong technical verbal and technical writing skills and ability to read and interpret technical literature
- Eligible to obtain PE license across any state
- Experience with short-circuit analysis, cable ampacity sizing, load flow analysis, and AC/DC voltage drop calculations and substation protection & control design
- Software experience - ETAP, SKM, ASPEN and AutoCad
Qualifications
- Must possess strong technical verbal and technical writing skills and be able to read and interpret technical literature
- Eligible to obtain PE license across any state

- Software experience - ETAP, SKM, ASPEN and AutoCad

Pay
Hiring range for this role if performed in Houston is $98,500 to $125,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary.
