About the role

Power Scholars Academy (PSA) is a summer program designed to prevent learning loss and provide academic support for K-8 students from San Francisco and San Mateo County. The program strengthens students' academic foundation as well as social-emotional and critical thinking skills through daily math and literacy instruction delivered by credentialed teachers, four days a week for three hours a day.

The Instructional Coach plays a critical role in supporting classroom teachers and assistants to enhance instruction in language arts and math, increase student engagement, and improve academic outcomes. Responsibilities include teaching or substituting for a cohort when necessary, overseeing assessments, and guiding teachers in using data to personalize instruction.

Training begins in Spring 2026. Program dates:

• San Francisco: June 8 to July 24, 2026
• San Mateo: June 18 to July 31, 2026

Responsibilities

• Staff Training & Development
  • Deliver pre-service and ongoing professional development for instructional staff.
  • Lead training sessions on PSA’s philosophy, curriculum methods, assessment practices, and behavior management strategies.
  • Identify staff development needs and deliver tailored coaching and professional development.
  • Observe classrooms, providing actionable feedback to ensure adherence to curriculum standards and best practices.
  • Comply with PSA and/or district professional development requirements.
• Recruitment & Hiring
  • Collaborate with PSA leadership and YGSF Talent Acquisition teams on recruiting and hiring staff.
• Instructional Oversight & Scholar Support
  • Monitor scholar progress and recommend adjustments to instructional practices as needed.
  • Oversee pre- and post-assessments, ensuring at least 80% scholar participation and using data to guide instruction and groupings.
  • Teach a cohort when necessary, ensuring high-quality, differentiated instruction.
• Program Operations & Environment
  • Collaborate with the Site Leadership Team to maintain a safe and productive program environment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

PSA Instructional Coaches work in dynamic classroom settings that may include both indoor and outdoor spaces. The role requires moderate physical activity, such as standing, walking, and interacting with students. You must adapt to a fast-paced environment, maintain a positive demeanor, and meet the physical demands of teaching and supervision, including handling classroom materials and technology.

Pay

The hourly rate for the PSA Instructional Coach position ranges from $61.00 to $85.00 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and alignment with industry salary benchmarks.
