About the role
Responsible for the overall operations of a gas plant, including operating, monitoring, and controlling all power plant systems from the Control Room. Executes plant shutdowns and startups, responds to alarms and equipment issues, and coordinates maintenance activities in alignment with current plant conditions and commercial commitments. Promotes safe, effective, and reliable operation while performing preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure proper functioning of equipment.
Responsibilities
- Assist and perform troubleshooting of plant equipment.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure proper functioning of equipment.
- Perform daily maintenance, construction, demolition, overhauls, repair/replacement, and removal/installation of plant equipment and structures.
- Provide skills for maintaining equipment at the plant.
- Perform clearances in Lockout-Tagout-Verify (LOTOV) under the direction of a senior operator or supervisor.
- Utilize and operate various types of hand, power, precision, or machine tools to support safe and productive work environments.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all electronic control systems and computers.
- Understand and follow current safety and environmental regulations necessary to conduct all phases of work.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety, health, and environmental procedures, including Lockout Tagout, Job Safety Analysis, Confined Space, Hot Work, Electrical Safety, and PPE.
- Respond calmly and think clearly in emergency situations.
- Access all areas of the plant, including confined spaces, high elevations, and hot areas, as required for operation, maintenance, or safety emergencies.
- Interact professionally with all levels of management and manage external relationships with vendors and contractors.
- Independently prioritize workload and multitask to achieve timely completion of assigned tasks.
Requirements
- 2–4 years of related experience (power plant experience preferred).
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
- Satisfactory completion of Tier 1 job performance measures (basic Operations, Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrument and Controls).
- Demonstrated standard computer-based skills.
- Effective oral and verbal communication skills.
- Independent knowledge of troubleshooting.
- Ability to work well under pressure and make decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Must be a successful candidate on the Plant Operator Selection System/Power Plant Operations and Maintenance (POSS/MASS) program.
- Must pass a respirator physical and fit test.
- Must be able to visually read and respond to computer-generated data, instrumentation, gauges, readouts, and variations in color.
- Manual dexterity required to operate keyboards, pushbuttons, dials, and valves.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and enter confined spaces.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs of weight.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and other documents.
Key Metrics
- Progression of skill within primary skill set.
- Satisfactory completion of Tier 2 job performance measures, including sign-offs demonstrating different primary and auxiliary system operations and maintenance relevant to the primary skill.
- Demonstrate continual self-improvement in job skills and knowledge.
Position can be filled at level 1–4 depending on skill and experience. Must be flexible to changing conditions and situations.
