About the role

The Power Plant Manager will oversee the Sterling Power Plant, managing its operations, maintenance, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and oversees planned maintenance and engineering support for SPP and distribution systems.
  • Formulate and execute short- and long-range operational plans for SPP.
  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures.
  • Provides direction and leadership for plant operators to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of utilities for University facilities and other properties.
  • Provides high-level technical expertise in the operation of a cogeneration plant and related technology.
  • Manage exempt and non-exempt staff to include scheduling, employee relations, and discipline.
  • Manages the administrative support needs for exempt and non-exempt staff and provides recommendations, improvements, solutions and assistance as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with University and federal regulations as they apply to the assigned departments.
  • Identifies, plans, and develops administrative policies for the assigned departments.
  • Assists in reviewing and implementing University and departmental policies as they pertain to the administrative functions of the assigned department.
  • Assesses and makes recommendations regarding staff development and staffing levels.
  • Maintains appropriate records as required.
  • Schedules and oversees work of outside contractors and ensures that the work is completed according to contracts and specifications.
  • Develops and implements engineering procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Provides hands-on engineering support for all associated maintenance.
  • Manages a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s Degree in related field and eight years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
