Job Description

The Power Plant Electrical Systems (PPS) unit at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is looking to hire an experienced, highly motivated engineer capable of taking on the challenges and delivering high quality technical products to the FORD class of aircraft carriers. The PPS unit is involved with the design, integration, testing, and technical oversight of propulsion plant electrical systems for the FORD Class. This position involves direct interaction with the shipyard, vendors, and customers. This is an opportunity to work as part of a high-performing team of engineers working to provide mission-critical support to the Navy and make a significant impact on the technology being developed to protect our country.

Responsibilities

  • Becoming a subject matter expert on the design, operation, and maintenance of an assigned system
  • Provide technical oversight of organizations developing electrical control systems and networks
  • Provide full life-cycle support for electrical systems and products
  • Support the troubleshooting and resolution of fleet and shipyard technical issues
  • Lead and coordinate system design change efforts
  • Support the development and revision of test procedures and technical manuals
  • Perform technical reviews of system design documents
  • Make technical recommendations in formal correspondence
  • Participate in the mentoring and development of less-experienced engineers

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or Currently a Senior Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

  • Experience working cross-functional or multi-discipline teams
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience working with motor controllers, generators, instrumentation and control systems, or networks
  • Experience developing system functional requirements or specifications
  • Experience developing or maintaining technical manuals or drawings

Pay Range

$95,700.00 - $149,600.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
