About the role

Our client is seeking an Analyst to support the commercial management and optimization of a diverse fleet of thermal and hydro generation assets. This individual will play a key role in asset value maximization, commercial hedging, market analysis, and strategic decision-making across North American power markets. The position offers exposure to generation portfolio management, structured transactions, asset optimization, and long-term commercial strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze power market fundamentals, pricing dynamics, and generation economics to support commercial decision-making.
  • Evaluate and develop hedging strategies to manage revenue volatility and optimize asset performance.
  • Support asset optimization activities, including bidding strategy analysis, outage economics, fuel considerations, and dispatch-related commercial decisions.
  • Conduct asset valuations, forecasting, and scenario analysis for thermal and hydro generation assets.
  • Assess merchant and contracted revenue opportunities across power markets.
  • Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and commodity fundamentals impacting generation assets.
  • Provide analytical support for acquisitions, development projects, and strategic portfolio initiatives.
  • Build and maintain quantitative models used for forecasting, valuation, and risk assessment.
  • Partner with commercial, origination, development, and portfolio management teams to identify and execute value-enhancing opportunities.
  • Present market insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Energy Management, or a related field.
  • 2-7+ years of experience in power markets, energy analytics, asset optimization, commercial strategy, energy marketing, portfolio management, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of North American power markets and generation asset economics.
  • Experience supporting thermal, hydro, renewable, or broader generation portfolios.
  • Knowledge of hedging strategies, risk management, and revenue optimization concepts.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skillset with experience working with large datasets.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, VBA, or similar analytical tools preferred.
  • Experience with power market modeling, forecasting, or valuation tools is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to convey market insights to technical and commercial audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
