About the role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. As a Power Generation Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide full life-cycle engineering support to AWS Data Centers' Power Generation Systems (PGS) from design inception through commissioning, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead troubleshooting, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and Corrective Action (CA) documentation for power generation system failures and Site Impairment Events (SIEs).
- Directly support operational issues with ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, and critical event support for power generation equipment.
- Interface with internal data center design engineering, server hardware, environmental health and safety, and controls teams to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in power generation services delivered.
- Work on concurrent projects, sometimes across multiple geographical regions.
- Initiate and lead engineering audits including on-site visits within Amazon's owned or collocated data centers; produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations.
- Act as resident engineer during new construction projects; support construction, commissioning, and turnover of power generation systems.
- Serve as Single Threaded Owner (STO) for critical power generation investigations, driving resolution of open cases and reducing SLA non-compliance across the fleet.
- Assist with regulatory compliance and reporting related to air quality, emissions permitting, fuel storage, and spill prevention.
- Develop and deliver technical training programs for DCEO and FE teams on power generation systems and supporting equipment, building regional expertise that develops knowledge across local teams.
- Provide senior engineering support for AWS investments in fuel cells, BESS, hybrid power generation, and future technologies such as SMRs, reducing commissioning delays and integration challenges.
- Supervise and validate generator vendor performed activities (startup, commissioning, maintenance); manage specialized power generation consultants and work with reliability team to manage vendor quality and SLA compliance.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
- Experience developing solutions and executing plans on complex projects
- Experience performing complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and presenting the justification to management in a high-level review
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
