Job Details

Combine people leadership with strong subject-matter expertise in power electronics, including power stage architecture, analog controls, magnetics, thermal design, and EMI/EMC performance. You will lead the electrical engineering function, oversee PCB engineering, and provide organizational management for the mechanical engineering team, which operates with a high degree of independence. You will partner closely with firmware, test, manufacturing, quality, and applications teams to deliver robust products that meet efficiency, thermal, cost, schedule, and reliability targets.

Required Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the electrical engineering team, with oversight of PCB engineering and organizational management responsibility for the mechanical engineering team.
  • Set technical direction for power electronics architecture, design methods, and hardware platforms, aligning execution with company priorities, product roadmaps, and business goals.
  • Architect and review power stages for servo drives and AC/DC conversion topologies, including component selection, derating, efficiency, thermal performance, and reliability.
  • Guide design of gate drive circuits, sensing (current/voltage), protection, and analog front-end conditioning for accurate control and safe operation.
  • Oversee development and tuning of analog control loops and filters for power conversion and servo amplifier functions; ensure stability across operating conditions.
  • Drive differential and common-mode filtering strategies to meet EMI/EMC goals, and lead collaboration on grounding, shielding, layout, and packaging constraints.
  • Oversee auxiliary and bias power supply design (isolated/non-isolated) supporting both power and control domains.
  • Establish expectations for loss, thermal, and derating analysis; drive cooling requirements and verify design margin through test.
  • Lead design reviews, risk assessments, sustaining engineering decisions, and design standards to improve product quality, manufacturability, and development consistency.
  • Perform trade studies and provide analytical guidance for internal and external stakeholders on cost, performance, risk, and schedule impacts.
  • Own staffing, prioritization, and execution across the electrical and PCB engineering functions, while coordinating management oversight of the mechanical engineering team.
  • Partner with manufacturing and applications engineering to support bring-up, debug, root-cause analysis, and customer escalations as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of electrical engineering and power electronics design experience (15+ years preferred), including industrial motor drives and/or power conversion products, with prior technical leadership or people management experience.
  • Strong background in analog closed-loop control design (stability analysis, compensation, filtering) for industrial power supplies and motor drives.
  • Experience with mixed-signal power electronics up to ~800 V and ~500 A, including protection, sensing, and safe operating area considerations.
  • Hands-on design of linear and switching power supplies (on-board and offline; isolated and non-isolated) and associated magnetics/components.
  • Proficiency with analysis and simulation tools such as SPICE and at least one of MATLAB/Simulink or Mathcad to model power circuits and control loops.
  • Ability to lead electrical and PCB hardware development, including design reviews, cross-functional coordination, and execution, while providing organizational oversight for the mechanical engineering team.
  • Ability to lead PCB layout constraints and reviews for high power density and low EMI (creepage/clearance, current return paths, dV/dt, and thermal considerations).
  • Minimum: M.S. in Electrical Engineering; Ph.D. is a plus.
  • Strong technical foundation in power electronics, controls, and/or hardware system design.
  • Relevant coursework or demonstrated expertise in linear control theory, electromagnetics, power electronics, thermal design, or related hardware disciplines.
