About the role

The Power Electronics Engineer position within Moog Space and Defense Group is available in Blacksburg, Virginia. This role reports to the Electrical Engineering Manager and involves circuit-level design, simulation, and troubleshooting for power supply and power converter applications.

Responsibilities

  • Circuit-level design, simulation, and troubleshooting for power supply and power converter applications.
  • Direct small team on power electronics projects.
  • Read and interpret customer specifications and understand their application to power electronics system requirements.
  • Perform thermal design to select component packages and design appropriate thermal management systems.
  • Develop prototype testing hardware and methods for power electronics systems and controls.
  • Provide field support and visit customers on an as-needed basis.
  • Work with CPES at Virginia Tech to stay updated on technological advancements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering or similar.
  • 3 years of power electronics design experience.
  • Familiarity with several power converter circuit topologies and ability to analyze.
  • Experience with control loop theory and analysis.
  • Experience with circuit simulation using PSIM, MATLAB or similar.
  • Desirable: Experience with magnetic circuit simulation and analysis using ANSYS Maxwell or similar.

Qualifications

  • Experience with power electronics design.
  • Understanding of power converter circuit topologies.
  • Control loop theory and analysis experience.
  • Circuit simulation experience.
  • Magnetic circuit simulation and analysis experience (desirable).

Skills

  • Power electronics design.
