About the Role

As the Power Electronics Engineer, you will lead and perform Low Voltage and Medium Voltage power electronics and electrical design tasks on Drive System projects. This technical role involves working within a multi-disciplinary team to specify, design, support manufacturing, and validate megawatt-scale power electronics for Marine/Defense, Energy, and Industry applications.

Responsibilities

  • Review detailed technical specifications for the control of large marine and naval power converters that capture customer requirements.
  • Maintain ownership of all engineering artifacts associated with specific power converters on projects, including software specifications, control specifications, software, control drawings, factory acceptance test procedures, and commissioning instructions.
  • Interface with Sourcing and Purchasing to ensure suppliers' products meet specifications.
  • Interface with the Manufacturing and Test departments to ensure power converters controls are fit for purpose.
  • Create models of the power electronic controls for use by power systems engineers in performing power quality studies and system stability studies.
  • Support sales by reviewing new customer requirements and highlighting differences/gaps between those requirements and power converter control capabilities.
  • Collaborate with other GE Power Conversion businesses to understand power converter technologies and software, incorporating them into requirements to satisfy North American customers.
  • Develop real-time software and hardware-in-the-loop systems for simulating and testing complex customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a similar field from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in power electronics, power conversion, and/or naval power systems.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% (domestic and international).
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering from an accredited university, or a Professional Engineer license with a proven record of continuous professional development.
  • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Self-motivated and intellectually curious, with a strong sense of ownership and initiative to drive tasks forward.
  • Exceptional communicator who can distill complex technical concepts for diverse audiences while remaining approachable and collaborative.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines while fostering team cohesion and an inclusive work environment.

Skills

  • Understanding of control for LCI, DC, and cycloconverters.
  • Familiarity with LTSpice, Matlab/PLECS, or other modeling tools.
  • Detailed working knowledge of the GE PC P80i programming environment.
  • Deep domain knowledge of semiconductor devices (thyristor and transistor-based) and their application to large power converters, with an emphasis on control theory.
  • Deep understanding of the control of voltage source and current-sourced power converters.

Pay

The pay range for this U.S.-based position is between $89,300.00 and $148,700.00, with a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. Bonus eligibility includes a discretionary annual bonus.
