About the role
The identified candidate will lead the Power & Recovery Operations Team and apply Principle Based Management (PBM®) to create superior long-term value through safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead through the proactive and deliberate application of Principle Based Management (PBM®) to capture and realize long-term value via Operations Excellence
- Translate the Mill and department vision into clear priorities, measures, and expectations that help the team focus on the highest-value work
- Create a culture grounded in Our Values by modeling integrity, stewardship and compliance, humility, respect, and accountability in daily decisions
- Provide leadership and direction to direct reports to ensure the Mill is meeting its objectives in EHS, quality, reliability, production, and costs
- Lead the development and implementation of asset strategies that drive continuous improvement and support all elements of reliability
- Use knowledge sharing, economic thinking, and good measures to identify gaps, evaluate tradeoffs, and make decisions that create real long-term value
- Clarify roles, responsibilities, expectations, and decision rights so team members can contribute according to their comparative advantages
- Facilitate knowledge and skills development of all team members, which include Asset Manager, Assistant Asset Managers, Supervisors, Planners and Hourly (union) Technicians
- Lead and mentor the team in planning and executing annual and routine outages, with accountability for long-term planning, risk reduction, and completion of annual work
- Coach and develop contribution-motivated employees by helping them self-actualize, build capability, and increase their contribution to the business
- Work as a team member with operations to cost effectively plan, schedule, and execute work that creates real long-term value
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in pulp and paper operations or equivalent biomass/power generation experience
- Proven experience delivering high levels of performance in a heavy industrial environment
- Proven ability to collaborate within and across teams to deliver positive results
- Experience applying leadership principles, coaching, or continuous improvement methods to build team capability and improve results
- Experience using data, measures, and economic thinking to identify gaps, prioritize work, and make value-creating decisions
- Experience with power generation equipment (boilers, turbines, recausticizing etc.)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering
- Experience applying PBM, supervisor responsibilities and expectations, or similar principled leadership frameworks to develop people and improve business results
- Experience building clear roles, responsibilities, expectations, and decision rights within a manufacturing or operations team
- Experience with the kraft chemical recovery process and associated equipment
- Experience with asset reliability techniques to improve equipment reliability
- Experience with repairing/troubleshooting fixed equipment, rotating equipment, pressure vessels and steam distribution systems
- Experience with landfill operations or wastewater treatment processes
