POSITION SPECIFICS

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Shin Mineishi, MD, Professor and Director Bone and Marrow Transplant Program, Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Penn State College of Medicine, and Penn State Cancer Institute.

  • Projects will involve developing chimeric antigen receptor T-cells targeting hematological malignancies.
  • Other projects will include identifying genomic structural variances associated with leukemia incidence, focusing on leukemia's molecular markers.
  • Projects will be performed in collaboration with Dr. Daniel Hayes, Department Head of Biomedical Engineering Dorothy Foehr Huck and J. Lloyd Huck Chair in Nanotherapeutics and Regenerative Medicine.
  • James Broach, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor and Chair Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Institute for Personalized Medicine.
  • The lab will use human blood samples, bone marrow samples, clinical data, and publicly available datasets.
  • We will also measure molecular markers of leukemia patients and incorporate molecular biology techniques including micro-RNA to correlate with leukemia pathogenesis.
  • Candidates need to work on clinical trial management which we are currently ongoing related to leukemia treatment.
  • Candidates will be supervised by Dr. Mineishi as well as Dr. Kentaro Minagawa, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Medicine.
  • Candidates should be highly motivated, have a keen attention to detail and follow protocols, have an MD and Ph.D. or equivalent, and possess a strong background in hematology/oncology, molecular biology, and data analysis.
  • Specific experience and skills in the analysis of genomic data, including structural variances, are preferred.
  • Prior experience with basic laboratory techniques is desirable.
  • The candidate should be capable of designing and analyzing experiments consistent with the broad thematic goals of the research program.
  • The candidate should have quality publications in nationally recognized journals, be fluent in English, and be interested and motivated to contribute to grant writing and supervision of research associates and students as the laboratory expands.

Pay

This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.
