Postdoctoral researcher in neurodegenerative disease and cancer

About the role

The laboratory of Professor Xiaolu Yang at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join a dynamic and interdisciplinary team. Research focuses on two major areas:

• Protein quality control, aging, and neurodegenerative diseases – investigating two novel protein quality control (PQC) systems involving tripartite motif (TRIM) proteins and poly-Asp/Glu (polyD/E) proteins, their molecular mechanisms, roles in aging and neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS), and therapeutic potential.
• Tumor suppression, metabolism, and autophagy – examining p53’s regulatory mechanisms and its role in controlling metabolic pathways, biosynthesis, redox balance, and how metabolism and autophagy influence embryonic and cancer stem cell biology.

Qualifications

• PhD or MD degree (or nearing completion).
• Strong publication record and rigorous experimental skills.
• Relevant experience in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, metabolism, stem cell biology, neuroscience, cancer research, or animal models.
