Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Bioinformatics Analyst (Lim)

Primary location: Exploration Avenue, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Full-time, day shift, 40 hours per week.

About the role

The Computational Regulatory Genomics Laboratory (computbio.org) at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow. The lab’s research focuses on understanding the fundamental mechanisms of gene transcriptional regulation across developmental biology, cancer biology, and metabolism, with a specific interest in enhancer regulation and systems-level understanding of enhancer architectures and functions.

We integrate multi-omics data—including ChIP-seq, ChIP-exo, CUT&RUN, GRO-seq, csRNA-seq, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, Hi-C, and single-cell technologies—to delineate heterogeneous architectures of transcription factor binding events and chromatin landscapes at high resolution. The lab collaborates with experimental laboratories specializing in metabolism, cancer, and development, and has published in high-profile journals such as Nature, Cell Metabolism, Molecular Cell, Genes & Development, Circulation, Nature Communications, and the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

Responsibilities

• Design, execute, and record analysis and experiments; apply standard scientific protocols, improve current methods, and evaluate innovative techniques.
• Develop and implement human subject research protocols, vertebrate animal research protocols, and design experimental procedures in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
• Prepare, clean, and analyze data; conduct regular quality and reproducibility checks to maintain protocol accuracy.
• Draft, write, and edit scientific reports, papers, journal articles, and abstracts.
• Present research findings at department meetings, journal clubs, and seminars; discuss insights with faculty and provide recommendations.
• Independently reproduce, evaluate, and improve existing techniques; adapt new methods to current procedures.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of all analyses and experiments.
• Develop, set up, and verify new procedures; standardize and establish published protocols; evaluate innovative techniques.
• Design new protocols and formats; troubleshoot erroneous results or equipment/software issues.
• Maintain and repair software/equipment; monitor proper use by personnel.
• Assist in preparing grant applications and fiscal budgets; monitor expenditures, prepare capital requests, and track funding.
• May provide day-to-day functional leadership for a team or manage support staff, including setting goals and performing performance reviews.
• May serve as a course master, develop new undergraduate/graduate courses, and deliver guest lectures.
• Assist in training new employees, serve as a resource/mentor to coworkers, and identify training needs.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in a related discipline, MD, or equivalent degree.
• Preferred: PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Biomedical Informatics, Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or other similar quantitative disciplines.
