Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Biochemistry & Molecular Biology
We are hiring a part-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the UTHealth Houston McGovern Medical School Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology in Houston, Texas. This role focuses on investigating the molecular mechanisms regulating macrophage function in skin fibrosis and hair loss, with an emphasis on RNA biology, alternative polyadenylation (APA), and immune regulation.
About the role
The project integrates molecular biology, mouse disease models, genomics, and single-cell technologies to identify novel mechanisms and therapeutic targets in inflammatory and fibrotic skin diseases. The ideal candidate will have strong experimental skills, enthusiasm for translational research, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Design, perform, and troubleshoot molecular and cellular biology experiments.
- Conduct studies using mouse models of skin fibrosis and hair loss.
- Perform experiments involving RNA biology, including RNA isolation, qRT-PCR, RNA sequencing, and alternative polyadenylation analyses.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data and prepare manuscripts for publication.
- Present research findings at laboratory meetings and scientific conferences.
- Assist in mentoring graduate students and other laboratory personnel.
- Read and evaluate scientific literature and contribute to grant applications and new research directions.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and follow institutional safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Doctoral/Terminal Degree in molecular biology, immunology, cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, or related field.
- Strong background in molecular and cellular biology.
- Experience with mouse models and animal research.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a research team.
Preferred Skills
- Single-cell RNA sequencing and genomic data analysis.
- RNA biology, alternative polyadenylation, or post-transcriptional gene regulation.
- Macrophage biology or immunology.
- Skin biology, fibrosis, wound healing, or hair follicle biology.
- Flow cytometry and fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS).
- Histology, immunofluorescence, or tissue imaging.
- Grant writing or fellowship application experience.
