About the role

The Physics and Astronomy Department at Williams College is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join Professor Tiku Majumder's laboratory. The position is a two-year term with a potential for renewal for a third year. The laboratory focuses on high-precision diode laser spectroscopy of heavy atoms to test the latest atomic theory and fundamental physics.

Responsibilities

  • Help lead experimental design and new apparatus construction
  • Conduct theoretical modeling and detailed data analysis
  • Disseminate work through scientific talks, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications
  • Think broadly about new experimental ideas that may serve as tests of the latest theoretical developments and proposals
  • Engage in the educational life of the Williams College Physics and Astronomy Department

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Physics or a related field
  • Strong background in experimental physics
  • Experience in relevant areas of laser and atomic physics techniques is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with computing, modeling, data collection, signal processing, and data analysis tools
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team which includes junior researchers

  • Teaching experience, including mentoring undergraduate students

Pay

The starting salary for this position ranges from $55,000 - $62,000, commensurate with experience.

Schedule
