Postdoctoral Research Associate - Surgery

About the Role

The Department of Surgery invites applications for a postdoctoral position in an NIH-funded laboratory investigating how neutrophil glycogen metabolism controls lung transplant injury. Our laboratory focuses on identifying underlying mechanisms of lung transplant rejection and interstitial lung disease.

A successful candidate will independently conduct studies with human and mouse tissue specimens, have experience with rodent microsurgery and tissue harvesting, retrieve biospecimens from the operating room, work with radioactive metabolic tracers, and perform metabolic assays. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, including writing research proposals, reviews, and papers.

Responsibilities

• Trains under the supervision of a faculty mentor.
• Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
• Prepares and submits papers on research.
• Assists in the design of research experiments.
• Evaluates research findings and assists in reporting results.
• Conscientiously discharges research responsibilities.
• Maintains conformity with ethical standards in research.
• Maintains compliance with good laboratory practice, including adequate research records.
• Engages in open and timely discussion with mentor regarding possession or distribution of materials, reagents, or records, and proposed disclosures.
• Conducts collegial interactions with co-trainees, staff, and research group members.
• Adheres to all applicable University policies, procedures, and regulations.
• All data, research records, and materials generated in University laboratories remain the property of the University.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals.

Requirements

• Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent terminal/doctoral degree.

Pay
