Postdoctoral Research Associate - Molecular Microbiology

About the role
The Kutluay Laboratory at WashU Medicine in Saint Louis, MO, is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to study fundamental aspects of HIV-1 replication, virus-host interactions, and innate immune defenses. The research focuses on the roles of viral and cellular RNA/DNA-binding proteins using next-generation sequencing, molecular biology, biochemistry, and molecular virology techniques. The lab provides an enriching and rigorous training environment to support diverse career goals. Qualified applicants will be invited for an in-person visit to meet lab members and the WashU research community.

Responsibilities
- Train under the supervision of a faculty mentor, including grant preparation and reporting.
- Prepare and submit research papers.
- Assist in the design of research experiments and evaluate findings.
- Report research results and maintain ethical standards in research.
- Maintain good laboratory practices, including adequate research records.
- Engage in open discussion with the mentor regarding materials, reagents, records, and proposed disclosures.
- Conduct collegial interactions with co-trainees, staff, and research group members.
- Adhere to all applicable University policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Note: All data, research records, and materials generated in University laboratories remain the property of the University.
Requirements
- Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent terminal/doctoral degree.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or MD/PhD in biological sciences or related fields with less than a year of postdoctoral experience.
- Experience in nucleic acid biology, molecular virology, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry.
- Familiarity with programming skills is highly desired.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills.

Working Conditions
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals.
